Airborne Laser Project Dropped
EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AP) - The Pentagon has mothballed a laser-equipped jumbo jet after 15 years and $5 billion worth of research to develop an airborne missile defense system.
Budget cuts shot down the Airborne Laser Test Bed but some research into anti-missile lasers will continue, according to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.
Russia is to test over 70 new missile systems in 2012Moscow, 13 Jan 12: About 70 new rocket and missile systems will be tested at Russia's Kapustin Yar test rangbe in 2012, this is an increase of 150 percent from 2011, a Defence Ministry spokesman reported.
The systems are part of more than 160 ongoing projects said Col;.Vadim Koval, without providing any further details.
During 2011, more than 500 test missile launches were made at the Kapustin Yar rocket launch and development site.
Almost all the missile and rocket related branches and services of the Russian Armed Forces, including the Strategic Missile Forces, the Air Defence Forces, and the Missile Forces and Artillery conduct their test at Kapustin Yar, located in the Astrakhan region between the cities of Volgograd and Astrkhan.
